Ask the Psychologist / need help remembering a certain term
« Last post by kick201 on October 13, 2011, 06:45:53 PM »Back in my social psychology class days in college, we read of a sort of thing that happens when a therapist will misdiagnose a patient based on what they believe to be symptoms of mental illness which are not actually symptoms, but are instead a problem with the therapist.
To give an example, say a person who is legitimately on the verge of a scientific discovery happens to tell a therapist this, whereupon the therapist believes they are having delusions of grandeur. The therapist then uses all statements the patient makes in support of the discovery as evidence of his/her madness. Meanwhile, the patient goes home and works on his discovery, eventually bringing about cold fusion, or resurrecting dinosaurs, etc, etc.
